De-Puff Yo Eye Fluff

8 Mar

Allergy season seems to be in full-swing here and according to Jude’s pediatrician, we happen to live in one of the worst areas for allergies in the US. Grrrrreeaaaaaat. While I don’t have bad allergies like others, my eyes seem to puff and fluff this time of year. So I thought I would share a few of my favorite de-puffing home remedies.

1. Tea Bags. The caffeine in tea (black or green will work similarly) helps constirct blood vessels and reduce swelling.

2. Cucumbers. Movies don’t lie. Not only do they provide cooling to the irritated area (which will reduce swelling) but cucumbers actually have astringent properties that cause blood vessels to constrict. Potatoes are said to do the same.

3. Drink extra water and reduce salt intake. When dehydration is occurring, our bodies will store water in “water reserves” which includes around the eyeballs. Yuck.

4. Preparation H. “The secret ingredient in Preparation H is Bio-dyne, also known as Live Yeast Cell Derivative – LYCD. This formulation is found only in the Preparation H marketed in Canada and not in the US version. Preparation H Cream found in the USA does not contain biodyne, which was removed when the product was reformulated years ago. Instead, it contains phenylephrine HCI 0.25 % – a vasoconstrictor (shrinks vessels) that some dermatologists claim will constrict capillaries and temporarily reduce dark circles and puffy eyes.” – PharmacyMix So basically, we are kinda screwed here in the US (you can say that again) but you can sometimes find the Canadian version via Amazon, Ebay, etc.
